What is a Type Beat? Is it same as a trap beat?
A type beat is simply a rap instrumental (Which can be trap as well). It’s just a fancy word for trap or hip hop instrumentals. It all started when artists started looking for beats that sounded like their own favorite artists.
For example, instead of asking I need a Lil Pump “style beat”. You would say I need a Lil Pump “Type Beat” or Drake type beat or even Future type beat.
Which basically means a rap beat that “sounds” like one of their preferred artists.
At RITC, we feature the best rap beats for sale.
This section is updated regularly so feel free to browse often.
When was this Type Beat trend started?
Type Beat trend was started around 2015 on Youtube. When every producer and their mome were using phrases like “rap instrumentals” or “trap instrumental”, producers needed to do something to do something new to make sure their beat stood out.
Hence the word ‘Type Beat’ came about. Soon it just became part of the music producer culture.
Whether you are looking for trap, dirty south, east coast, fast rap, hard rap, pop rap, rock rap, sad rap, smooth rap or underground rap, you will probably find it here.
Keep one thing in mind though, Hollich doesn’t produce ‘type beats’. He just makes beats that he likes.
Can I Rap Over Instrumentals?
Yes. However, it’s best to know a few mixing tips so you can get the most out of your purchase. Here is a phenomenal tutorial on the best way to mix your vocals on rap instrumentals.

Just like you would rap over any other beat. All you need to do is just mix your vocals with the stems (Tracked out parts) that are provided. Also make sure you use a quality xlr microphone instead of the usual USB microphones.
What does ‘Tracked Out’ or Stems mean?
Tracked out beats or stem pretty much mean the same thing. Let’s say you buy a beat that contains guitar, bass, drum, kick and snare. When you purchase the beat, you get each instrument as a different ‘track’ or file. So you can mix it and master it the way you want.
Do rap beats include the instrumentals?
Yes. You get the complete high quality .mp3 version of the instrumental and the individual stems as well.

Does every trap beat need an 808 bassline?
Yes. 808s are essential to a typical trap beat. It’s the heart of the track along with the main melody in my opinion. I believe it was Metro Boomin or Zatoven who said “808 is an instrument”.
I take that to heart.
Think about it this way, if you remove 808s from a trap beat, what do you have left? Exactly . . .
How every trap beat is made?
A Trap beat can be made with just 6 sounds. So what does a trap beaat consists of? Well it all starts with the Main Lead (Synth, maybe an acoustic guitar, etc), 808, kick, snare, hit hats, secondary complimenting lead. That’s it. Of course I’m generalizing but this is pretty much how it works. You can always add a sub-bass and effects later.
Think of trap beats like sushi. Few ingredients but what you make better be quality.
If you keep this in mind, you can make beats and eventually turn them into full trap songs.
Remember though, anybody can make a beat, not many can make full professionally mixed and mastered tracks.
How should you tune the drums for a trap beat?
Rule of thumb is your kick or pretty much each of your instruments should be in ‘key’ of the entire track. In my book, the ‘key’ is usually found in the main lead (Note that is played in the beginning and played the most) and than you tune your kick, 808s or whatever to that note.
Always make sure that your kick and 808s are in the “key” of your lead. Obviously there are no rules to making music and being creative but this is how the professionals do it.
At least this is how I do it.
